Christmas Skiing

After Christmas morning we headed out for a 12 our drive to Angel Fire, NM which is close to Taos. We stayed for five days with another couple who have four kids of similar ages. It was a lot of fun but a very long drive! All three boys took ski school for a couple of days and are proving to be great skiiers. More pictures to come when I figure out how to upload to my ipad!

MEET ROXY: Yes, it's true we have a new addition and believe me when I tell you it is a lot like a 5th child, only this one doesn't wear diapers, and with all the accidents we have had I wish she did. Thank goodness she is such a cute Boxer. The kids love her and London thinks she is just a baby doll and wraps her in her blankets and pushes her in the stroller. They are having a lot of fun with her.

While we were on vacation Cayden turned 11 and London turned 3! I really can't believe they are that old...but since we were gone we had a shared birthday party with family and friends and also watched the Ducks cream PSU. London got her first quad and we made sure it was pink thinking that would keep the boys off but they still wanted to ride it just the same.

I was surprised when Jason told me that he had planned a trip to Italy and Greece and did it all without me knowing! I have wanted to go to Greece for a long time but with 4 kiddos did not think it would be possible any time in the near future. Now I think I have the travel bug again and would love to see other countries as well as learn a new language, since English really is NOT a universal language, but it did make the trip a bit more interesting. The first experience we had was at dinner when the waiter showed up to take our orders and asked if we preferred "Gas or No Gas." I was a little surprised and without thinking replied, "No Gas." He then returned with 2 waters and as he set them on the table said, "No Gas..." Ahhh, he meant carbonated or non-carbonated water!! Well, that's a relief. This picture below is on Santorini:

We arrived at the airport at 5am after being gone for 11 days and found out they had moved our flight to the next day unbeknownst to us! Needless to say I was not happy at this point and missing my kids a ton, plus we had to rent earlier mentioned tiny match box car. But we found a hotel and we headed for the mountains and were so surprised at how beautiful it was. It was like we were back in the "Sound of Music." We were so glad we got to go up there and felt it was worth the trip.

This is an Olympic ski jump and was way more steep in person than it appeared here...

So at dinner we were seated with another couple from Spain, Dani and Christina, who were the same age as us and also had 2 boys close in age to our kids. We seemed to have a lot in common and really enjoyed hanging out with them. We will miss them but maybe they will come visit us sometime or we might just have to go see them!

I thought I would post a few pics from this summer that help us reflect on family, friends, and good times together.

The kids competed in the Pacific Crest Weekend in Sunriver, OR during our annual Stanley Family reunion. (Lucky for us we also got to see my sister and her kids there, too)

London has become such a great swimmer and loves being outside. As you can see we are still working on the potty training. She was doing so good before we went to Eugene and now that we are back she refuses to wear anything but a diaper. Ugg, I thought girls were supposed to be easy!

CAUGHT! Cayden knows he is not supposed to be on the waterfall, but does that stop anyone?

Finally finished with landscaping...
And now Jason takes it upon himself to build an outdoor shower out of some leftover bricks in our Garage. Too bad it was over a hundred that day and it did take him ALL day. He has decided being a brick mason is not his divine calling in life...WAY TOO MUCH WORK.

I think it turned out great and we love it!

We still have landscaping and sprinklers to do but at least the kids can jump in! Especially since it has been close to 100 degrees or more for the last 3 weeks, but now we love it.

Well our yard is a complete mud, dust, concrete pit at the moment. We had some rain last week and it slowed things down a bit but they are supposed to be plastering and tiling tomorrow. We have had typical spring weather here, I guess with major thunderstorms, flash floods and oh yea, tornado warnings. It still has been hot and the kids are dying to jump in the pool. After one rain shower there was still water left in the pool and Maddox wanted to go for a swim, sorry bud, it's not ready yet!

We have the first pics of tile laid on the hot tub and around the edge of the pool...

We interrupted the mating of two Geckos and Maddox had a playmate for the day, he loved it. Too bad I think there will be a decline in the gecko population now.

Preston had a great birthday with lots of friends from school and basketball at a place called "Jump for Fun." They wore themselves out on all the inflatable bounce houses and then filled up on lots of sugary cake. What more could a kid ask for?

Preston and Maddox have both been playing on Basketball teams and LOVE it. They are so cute to watch and are getting much better than Mom at home when we play HORSE.

Yes, my kids think we lied to them and never really moved to Texas, but more like the North Pole. We have had record weather patterns ever since we got here, like record rainfalls in the fall, record cold temperatures this winter, and now a 100 year record for SNOW! Pumkin Patches here are a bit like Christmas tree lots. They just set out a bunch of pumkins (grown elsewhere) along the side of the road and call it a Pumkin Patch...Cayden was disappointed in the lack of scare factor associated with any mazes (ie. not like the Haunted Corn Maze in Eugene!)<

They did have some cool pumkins, though. These are called "Fairytale" pumkins...

All the ghosts and goblins, did not have to worry about being chilly here in Texas.

I know it's been a while...OK a LONG while but things have not settled down a bit! Today was the kids first day of school in TEXAS! Wait, back-up, that's right. We moved down to Texas on the 16th of this month, leaving our Eugene home still for sale and moving in with Jason's parents until it sells. So I will digress...What a summer. We kicked it off with a Stanley family reunion to Sunriver and had a great time with lots of cousins. I had a neice get married in July in Utah, we went to Seattle to visit family and in August we went to Disneyland with the boys and Jason and I ran a half marathon to raise awareness and money for Musculur Dystrophy. As soon as we got back we packed up to move...it has been crazy to say the least. We are happy to be back in Texas and look forward to getting more settled as soon as our home sells.

London was not very cooperative unless we showed and gave to her a piece of chocolate after every shot. May has proved to be a very busy month already...Emi has gone to 3,yes THREE Proms. We have had Family fun night at Preston and Maddox's Preschool which was a lot of preparation but a fun night! We had a neighborhood garage sale and sold a bunch of stuff, Cayden had a jog-a-thon and ran 4.5 miles, way to go Cayden!! Jason ran his first Full Marathon, almost 6x Cayden's distance. I was tired just cheering him on. We had mother's day Parties at Pre-school and Finally opened our pool for the season, this is all on top of karate, cubscouts, piano lessons, birthday parties, church meetings, 2 sick kids, Doctor appts, and did I mention 3...Proms!

Mother's Day at St. Thomas

Maddox's party was very sweet and he was so excited to give me the things he had made and they are so precious....

It was a month of parties. First I had my birthday, with too many candles on the cake to count, then we had 4, yes 4, valentine parties, notice London wants to start Preschool too, then Preston had his 5th birthday. We celebrated his birthday by going to the Monster Jam Truck rally in Portland. All the boys had a ball, especially when one of the trucks flipped over and got all smashed, they thought that was the coolest!

We had candles that would keep re-lighting, since Preston is such a good candle blower. His expression was priceless when he couldn't keep them blown out.

I can't believe the year has come to a close. Where did the time go? We always say this at the end of the year and promise next year to take things slower, to do less and enjoy more. This year was full of fun and growing, kids getting bigger and lives becoming more enriched. We are so grateful for all our friends and family and love every moment we get to spend with each other. We are grateful that our business has continued to support our families during these difficult times. After returning from Kauai we had only a couple of weeks to prepare for Christmas. We went out to cut down our own tree and quickly decorated and did our shopping. Then we were able to spend the rest of the time visiting and celebrating. The kids Christmas break came a week early when we received a bunch of snow and ice and cold weather. The kids sure did enjoy not having to go to school that last week. We wish the best for you and your families as well in the coming year and enjoy staying in touch with each other even if it is only online. What busy lives we all live, but it is so nice to see a little glimpse into each of your lives through blogs, pictures and e-mails. With that, we say Happy Holidays and have a great New Year!!

Hanalei, Kauai

I realized there were so many pictures of our trip to Kauai, and more in the making, so I thought I would post a few. Someone asked me before we left, "what on earth are you going to do over there for 3 weeks, I would get so bored!" Well let me tell you I think I could stay here for years, we have only 1 week left and I am already sad. The kids have had lots of beach time from digging in the sand, to boogie boarding and surfing. We've seen amazing waterfalls, turtles, and whales. Cayden enjoys catching Geckos and Preston and Maddox like all the chickens that roam free here. There is no real hurry to go anywhere and we have no time frame once we get there. With that in mind here is a few photos of our time together.

These are the waterfalls that all feed the stream that runs alongside our property. There is usually only one little trickle in the center, but this day it rained so hard the mountain was covered. It was pretty amazing to see.

Maddox had been talking about going to Chuck E. Cheese for his birthday forever, even though we had never officially planned it, that was just where he had decided in his mind. So about a week before jis bithday, we finally decided to give in and let him go. Let me tell you that kid was in heaven. What is it that kids love about places like this sooo much? It can't possibly be the cardboard pizza. But it is all about games and fun and they all had their fill. Happy Birthday my cute little baby boy, I hope it was your best birthday yet.

Here go the Trick or Treaters...

This is at Cayden's 3rd grade class party. Can you believe we had 4 halloween, or should I say "Harvest" parties, in one week. It was a busy week to say the least!

Ready For Church. It is always a struggle to get out the door in time for church, but today we did it and had 10 min to spare when we pulled in the parking lot, needless to say it was quite empty. As we walked inside there was no one in the pews, we would have our pick today of where to sit. When I asked where everbody was it was then we came to realize that we were not just 10minutes early but 1hour and 10min. I have never been a casulty of Daylight savings time, but never say never, because today was my day. Oh well, I plan on putting the kids to bed at the same time and enjoying my extra hour after they are in bed, not knowing the difference!

And let me tell you I should put myself in time out more often. I had a great couple of days without kids, going where I want and doing what I want, when I want. I even went to the bathroom all by myself. Thanks girls...and Jason for staying home with all the dogs.

I think she is a little confused as to where we bath ourselves in this house. I don't know if I should post a naked picture of my daughter but it was quite a surprise to find her standing in the dishwasher naked. She loves to try and take her diaper off, and add to that the fact that she loves to climb into anything, drawer, cupboard, shelf, box, etc. well there you have it.

Preston took care of his class pet, Champ, for 2 days and was quite protective of him.

I can't believe a whole year has passed since we had our baby girl. I hope I can hold onto her sweet baby scent for a long time. I feel so sad that she is getting so big and independent already. On her birthday she took her first actual steps. She is just so precious to me I can't even describe the feelings. We had a great party and lots of fun...

We tried to get some professional pictures of the kids and every time I would think about doing it someone would get some sort of bruise or scratch and I would say "oh I'll wait till next week" then next week would come and go with no pictures. So since I had only taken London's picture once when she was 3 months old I figured it was now or never. Jason and I had not intended on being in the pictures too, but I was actually wearing a coordinating top and thought what the heck. So maybe next year we will actually get some good professional shots, but these will do for now....

Is it true I have a 9 year old...I can't believe so much time has gone by. Cayden is in the 3rd grade now and doing really well, he has a great Spanish accent. He is taking piano and is involved in Cub Scouts. He has this notion that he wants to be a movie star someday and so he wanted a Hollywood style party...I was all for just having a few friends over to swim but he and his Dad got to planning, well we won't let that happen again. He had a great time and it makes me happy to see him happy.

Well we decided at the last minute to take the family to San Francisco and go to Six Flags, since they had been begging for a trip to Disneyland. Needless to say we did not want to endure a 14 hour drive with the kids, so we settled on the 8 hours drive each way instead. We had a great time, and then were home in time for Labor day weekend and a great Oregon Duck Game.

A Day At The Lake

We went out with Grandma and Grandpa Stanley to Fall Creek. The kids did not know what to think of being on the boat and tube. I guess it has been too long since we had our boat for them to remember, except for Cayden, who always told Grandpa to go FASTER. We played a game with Preston and Maddox of "No Hands" to distract them and get them to enjoy the tube. It worked!
London wouldn't move while the boat was going...not such a bad thing. We did have to put the infant life vest on her though and she was not happy.

Happy Anniversary

It's been 13 years!! We can't believe it, it's gone by so fast yet it also seems like there was never a time when we were apart. I was 13 when Jason and I first met. It's hard to believe that now we have been together for so long and have four beautiful children together. So Jason's parents and Emirose were so kind as to let us get away for the weekend and we stole away to Sunriver, just the two of us. We hardly knew what to do with just each other, but quickly figured it out and found ourselves remembering what it was like to have so much time to do whatever you wanted. For us that included long walks, biking all over, playing tennis, hiking, reading books while sitting by the pool, having a long relaxing dinner, and whatever comes later...(No there will be no 5th child as a result of this vacation, Jason already took care of that.) So needless to say it was wonderful and we remembered that we do really enjoy being around each other, but we also really missed the kids, (at least a little bit.)
Here is a picture of Lake Paulina, we hiked around the whole edge of the lake, 7.5miles. It was a little farther than we expected but we made pretty good time.

Touch a Truck

We went to the Touch a Truck event on Wednesday night where they had all kinds of trucks for the kids to see, touch, crawl up in, and their favorite thing...Honk all the Horns!! There was logging trucks, dump trucks, garbage trucks, ice cream trucks, and all sorts of police and fire vehicles. The boys had a blast going through each one, sometimes multiple times.

Cub Camp

From Archery to BB Guns...Crafts, Skits, Games, and more, Cayden loved every bit of Cub Camp. He is trying to convince me that we have enough room in our yard to set up a hay bale for Archery...wouldn't our neighbors love to see arrows flying into their backyards. As if the soccer balls are not enough to fish out.

Here we are at the annual Creswell Parade. The kids love watching all the horses, fire trucks, tractors, and floats. Not to mention all the candy they throw out to the kids and the hosing down by the fire trucks...

Next it was off to the Eugene Pro Rodeo for a little monster truck and motorcycle action. The kids were not as interested in the actual cow roping and barrell racing that we were there to actually see
And yes this guy is in mid-air about 30 feet off the ground... Maddox has found a new career!

SUNRIVER - STANLEY FAMILY STYLE

Well, we arrived in Sunriver over the Pacific Crest Sports Festival Weekend (as if that is not a mouthful). A lot of the family participated in events and others were great cheerleaders(myself included). It was a great week of hiking, biking, rafting, and sunning by the pool.
Jason competed in the olympic triathalon in 96 degree heat.

Maddox and his cousin Danika have their own splash. Next year you two will be competing as well... Here we hiked through the Lava Lands as a family and made it to a great view point. Then we were off to the Lava Caves for another long hike, only this one was freezing cold.

The next day we had to cool off, and let me tell you that water was COLD. We rafted down the Deschutes river through a series of 5 class 3 rapids. It was fast and fun. Preston had other feelings about the trip. He said "If we go there again, I do not want to go there!!" A wall of water coming over the front of the boat in rapid succession was just a little too much for him...

Lost Camera!

It's been a while since we posted because our camera was lost after memorial weekend!! We had a great trip to Mt. Hood and Jason competed in the Onion Man Triathalon. He improved his time by 20 minutes over last year. We took the family on an old fashioned steam train ride in Hood River and hit the Zoo in Portland on the way home. A lot of my pictures are gone so I highly suggest backing up your photos on a regular basis. We have finally gotten a new camera and are on our way to Sunriver for a great Stanley Family Reunion with all the brothers and Grandma and Grandpa. Lots of pictures to follow as the days progress.

Preston just learned to ride his 2 wheeler (with training wheels), and had no fear. He was going off curbs and cruising down the cul-de sac. All of which I was OK with until I came out and found he had rigged up his bike to pull the 3 wheeled wagon with his little brother in it. He called it his roller coaster ride. Let's just say that Maddox was the one needing the helmet....I can't leave those two alone for one minute!!

Pool Party

Maddox couldn't wait to get in. He is getting to be such a water dog.
Can I even tell you how much I love shopping for and buying little girl clothes! London's first dip in our pool and she loved it. She couldn't stop kicking her feet and splashing.
Emirose and London take some time to lounge in the sun.

Zany Zoo

Zany Zoo came to Preston's school carnival. The boys were loving it. The mom was not as much.
Who couldn't use a drawer full of Bearded Dragons?
Yes, that snake is real, and the man informed us that they do have sharp fangs but rarely bite. This concludes why the mom was not as excited about this as the boys were. Let's just say I have a very good zoom lens.
OK, so this is more my speed. That turtle is large enough to ride on. I loved the cool shell.

Cayden has the job of digging out the moss in the cracks and finds his own" starfish".
Preston is trying to rake up all the aeration logs after giving up trying to count how many he has picked up by hand.
Just our luck a stray kitten happens in our yard and makes instant friends with the boys. They want to keep it but I make them march house to house to find its owner. No luck yet but it will find a different home!
